Blue Sky Flower Farm is a specialty cut flower and horticultural farm located between Lakeville and Elko New Market, Minnesota. With more than 30 years of combined horticulture experience, we grow an intentionally selected collection of cut flowers, woody branches, foliage, and seasonal crops for floral professionals, retailers, designers, and our local community.
Blue Sky was founded by Jon and Rachael Ackerman on land that was once part of Jon’s family dairy farm. What began with a small planting of specialty dogwood and willow has developed into a diverse 10-acre growing operation shaped by horticultural experience, experimentation, and an ongoing interest in what can be grown exceptionally well in Minnesota.
Our fields now include specialty cut flowers, distinctive woody branches, textural foliage, herbs, fruits, vegetables, and seasonal crops. We select what we grow with purpose, considering performance, seasonality, vase life, design value, and the qualities that make locally grown material different from what is available through conventional supply chains.
Minnesota’s seasons define our work.
Rather than trying to grow everything, we focus on crops that perform well here and bring something distinctive to floral and seasonal design. From spring flowers and summer field cuts to autumn branches and winter evergreens, our offerings evolve throughout the year.
That same approach extends to how we grow. Soil health, responsible production practices, crop longevity, and thoughtful land stewardship are integral to the farm and to its future.
Blue Sky supplies florists, garden centers, landscape designers, public gardens, independent retailers, and other professional partners throughout Minnesota and beyond.
Closer to home, customers can experience the farm through our Flower Bouquet CSA Shares, seasonal Farmstand, holiday collections, and Friday Night Flowers Pick-Your-Own workshops.
Whether a stem is headed to a floral studio, retail display, public garden, or kitchen table, our standard is the same: exceptional material, grown with intention.
After years in horticulture, we still believe some of the most interesting work happens through experimentation.
We continue to test new varieties, refine our production methods, expand our specialty crops, and look for unexpected materials with potential for floral and landscape design.
